Maputo, the capital of Mozambique, is an Indian Ocean port city whose Portuguese colonial architecture is still preserved today. Made in 2003 under the auspices of the African Union, the Maputo promises in Mozambique called on several African countries to mobilize more funds for the continent’s agriculture. Twenty years have passed, but these promises have still not been fulfilled.
The majority of countries have not yet reached the target of allocating 10% of national budgets to agriculture. The lack of financial resources limits efforts to increase food security and rural development, while infrastructure problems and the situation of local farmers worsen. To address this financial shortfall, several initiatives have been undertaken to improve agricultural value chains and enhance access to financing.
