The FAO Food Price Index is a measure of the monthly change in international prices of a basket of basic food commodities. It is the average of the indices for the five commodity groups, weighted according to the respective average share of exports of each group for the period 2014-2016. An article published in the June 2020 issue of the Food Outlook outlines the changes to the index, namely the revision of the reference period and the expansion of the basket of products, which will be implemented from July 2020. This November 2013 article contains technical information on the formulas previously used to compose the index.
