About 300 groups representing the food and agriculture sectors have urged the Trump administration, via a letter to officials like Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Secretary of Health, to use “quality science” to improve the health of American citizens. These groups expressed concerns about unfounded criticism of the safety of the agri-food value chain and highlighted the importance of pesticides in farming systems. They warned that failing to maintain current regulatory standards could hurt producers, food processors and consumers.
These groups point out that unsubstantiated criticism of the security of the agri-food value chain can damage consumer confidence. They insist that pesticides, used in both conventional and organic agriculture, are essential for maintaining a healthy and vibrant food system. They warn that failing to maintain the regulatory standards already in place could harm not only farmers and producers, but also consumers. More lax standards could have negative consequences for the agricultural economy, affecting food production and national food security. These concerns reflect a desire to preserve agricultural practices based on sound science while protecting the interests of producers and consumers.
