African banana producers and Covid-19

Faced with the health crisis associated with the Covid-19 pandemic, African banana companies have taken action and are rigorously implementing all the health recommendations made by the governments of producer countries. There are dual priorities for the sector: an ongoing supply of high quality bananas to distribution centres, and the safety of workers.

So far, in spite of enhanced checks, no cases of the disease have been recorded. In banana plantations and the various African ports, the sector’s technical teams are monitoring employees’ scrupulous compliance with hygiene regulations and have made hand sanitiser available in suitable quantities. In packing stations, hygiene measures are particularly strict, specifically with the provision of water points and disinfectant gel so that the primary instruction from health authorities can be implemented: frequent hand washing. Particular attention is paid to the transporters, drivers and mechanics who are essential to the proper running of our operations.
